Dec. 24—The home of Jason and Melody Prochnow in southwest Jamestown glows with holiday lights while Santa Claus does his best to hang on to the eaves of the home after some sort of unexplained rooftop mishap.

It is an annual tradition for the Prochnow’s to decorate their home for Christmas, Jason Prochnow said.

“We do it every year,” he said. “For the kids, seeing the kids enjoy, their eyes just light up.”

The Christmas lights and decorations have accumulated and been added to over the years. Each year the display is changed a bit to bring a little something different to the neighborhood, Melody Prochnow said.

Decorating is a traditional chore for the family with mom, sad and the two teenage children all lending a hand. This year, the task took about a day and a half and was accomplished in October when the weather was nice.

“Dad does the stuff along the roof and all the electrical,” Melody Prochnow said. “I and the kids do the stuff along the ground.”

There are many homes around Jamestown with varying levels of holiday decoration.

This year the Jamestown Downtown Association published a Holiday Light Tour map on its website providing the locations of 21 decorated homes that are part of a holiday light contest sponsored by the association.

Home or business owners registered to be placed on the map and compete for cash prizes awarded to three entrants based on voting by the public.

Melody Prochnow said their family, including two teenagers and two younger children, puts up Christmas decorations for their own enjoyment.

“The teenagers help and the little kids enjoy,” she said.
