The Home Depot Inc. announced this week that it will be recruiting over 100,000 new workers, and they will be deployed to the company’s stores and warehouses. The latest hiring spree is said to be part of its preparations for the spring season when demand for home improvement products is higher.
According to Reuters, spring is really the peak season for The Home Depot, so it is usual for it to hire more workers around this time. However, over the past several years, the company typically hires just 80,000 staff, so this year’s job recruitment is much bigger.
Apparently, the spring season has always been the busiest time of the year for The Home Depot and other home improvement stores in the U.S. This is because most people are going back to gardening, doing renovations, or simply re-decorating their homes following the chilly winter months.
Also, it was reported that The Home Depot also experienced a surge in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason for this is that most people are stuck at home due to the lockdowns and protocols related to the coronavirus.
For home builders and companies engaged in construction, these professionals are also back at work and resuming the projects that were left unfinished as the pandemic continues. With the situation easing up in many places, lots of projects are in the works again. This is beneficial for The Home Depot as it is where most of the builders and handymen get their supplies and materials.
Now, The Home Depot is hiring to keep up with the demand that is expected to grow soon. It is looking for full-time, part-time, and staff who can work flexible hours. The job roles that the company has vacancies for include merchandising and warehouse associates, store support, customer and sales service, and freight.
Job applicants can check more information and get a glimpse of the open jobs at the company’s virtual Spring Career Day event. The Home Depot is holding this activity for jobseekers to know more about the firm, find the right roles, and learn the opportunities waiting for them. The career day is set to be held on Feb. 16.
“In today’s climate, jobseekers are shopping for the best opportunity. At The Home Depot, they’ll find a company that offers much more than a job and a paycheck,” The Home Depot vice president of global talent acquisition, Eric Schelling, said in a press release. “Jobseekers will find a values-based company that invests in them with our success sharing bonus program and gives them the opportunity to grow, similar to the approximately 90 percent of our store leaders who started as hourly associates.”
